I was tagged!

I was tagged on Myspace, but I blog here, so here it goes! Oh and it was post random things about your self. I have been really bad at explaining myself lately.

1. I am addicted to WAHM wares. WAHM= work at home mom. It doesn’t help that there is a whole site for just that! So here’s a fun plug for Hyena Cart! I love trying the new soaps, plus it helps that many WAHM make cloth diapers. I am enjoying not relying on mainstream products.

2. I LOVE my cloth pads. I am so glad that I made the switch. Best. Choice. Ever. My kid wears cloth and I do too! I got mine off of a Hyena cart congo, but when I went to look for the link, it looks like she’s not part of that congo anymore. I hope I find her somewhere else, because I really wanted to order more:( Here is a picture of MY current stash.Photobucket Pretty right? WAY comfy too. On a side not, I cam across this site that is trying to send cloth pads to girls in Africa. I love it! Help out too! Goods 4 Girls.

3. Although I am trying to quit the mainstream I am hopelessly addicted to Target. In my defense I am a super clearance shopper. Does that help me out at all? Thought not. So this is probably a good place to plug this:) The Story of Stuff Ah reduce, reuse, recycle!

4. I always want to purge stuff and can never seem to get it under control. When I get home, I have a strong urge to Freecycle everything! There is still stuff in boxes, and I *think* I have come to gripes with the fact that I am never going to be a size 6 again. I’m ok with it really. I just need the stuff out of my house.

5. Everytime I *think* I am getting this parenting thing under control, it throws me for a loop. Not a whole lot to say on that subject I suppose.

6. I LOVE my online friends. I’m excited that a few are close to me and we get to meet up. Here’s to people you have things in common with. Love you Hookers! LOL.

7. This isn’t that random, but I am SO addicted to my new camera it’s not even funny. I left the room for about 15 minutes yesterday and took 80 pictures. I was excited that I found Tanya’s gecko. So thank you again, Ryan! I love you too!

That wraps that up! I tag Tanya!

Yipee!

WOOHOO! Just a tad bit excited. Over what you may ask? WELL, it seems that I will be able to get my camera before Ryan gets back home. I am SO excited. Being without a camera sucks. Funny how dependent on something you can get. So pretty coon, I will be able to to picture tutorials for you guys as well. So that is all for the super quick update, and I am off to watch the WCW auction going on. Wish me luck!

Cloth Diaper information

I know, I know! I was supposed to have this up a couple of days ago. Better late than never!

First off, a few articles about cloth diapers versus disposables:

http://www.thenewparentsguide.com/diapers.htm

http://www.ilea.org/lcas/franklin1992.html

An interesting article that breaks up the cost of using cloth vs. sposies:
http://www.naturalfamilyonline.com/5-diap/45-diaper-cost.htm

All about washing your cloth diapers.

Now this can be a HUGE debate across the board. Once you find your wash routine, I bet you will argue it’s the best as well. Here’s mine:

Cold prewash with a squirt of Bac out(I’ll get to that later).
HOT wash, cold rinse with detergent(I use Sun or Biokleen), baking soda, and a squirt of Dawn(original not Ultra)
Cold rinse with Grapefruit seed extract and a drop or two of Orange essential oil for a yummy smell.

Also when I get diapers used I will put about a tablespoon of beach in the wash. If you are going to do this, fill the washer with all the water, add detergent and bleach. Let it agitate a minute before adding the diapers.

About once a month I will strip my diapers with RLR. A miracle to cloth diapers. IT can be found in some grocery stores, but I have only been able to find it online. It breaks up all the detergent build up that can cause the diapers to stink.

Here are a few articles on washing diapers that may be useful.

Detergents.

Detergents can be another touchy subject. Some mom’s SWEAR by Tide, other can’t use it due too rashes. Other go for a more pricey approach with Charlies or Allen, but they can also cause rashes in some children. I can use Biokleen with no problems, while some moms say that they get stinky diapers from them. If your water is hard or soft can also determine detergent use. This site tests all their detergents.

Bac Out:
I get this at Fred Meyers in the natural section. The link just shows what the bottle looks like! I don;t just use this for diapers. I use it for cleaning around the house as well. Smells like limes!
http://www.drugstore.com/qxp94847_333181_sespider/bi_o_kleen/bac_out_stain_and_odor_eliminator_with_live_enzyme_cultures.htm

Biokleen detergent:
I bought this because it was on sale. I had been wanting to try it out ever since I smelled it. It got out a stain that was SO super set in on a bamboo flat, so I am forever in love. Made by the same company as Bac Out. Smells like grapefruits.

Grapefruit seed extract:
It is used as an antibacterial. You can also use Tea Tree oil, but I am allergic. This is what I use. About 20 drops in a full load. I also can find this at Fred Meyer or Supper Supplements.

Essential oils:
I love the citrus ones. Whatever your preference is is great! I just add about 5 drops to the rinse. Smells yummy!

Fun Stuff!

Now we get to talk about your stash! I don’t know if there is truly a thing called stash nirvana, but hey, to each their own! I am always up for trying new things, but my stash is built up from very basic diapers. I can’t give you numbers, simply because I am too scared to count! But I’ll give you a run down of what I’ve got.

Prefolds. You can never have too many of these. I love them! Gerber, Indian, or Chinese. I love them all.

Flats. This was the first diaper that I fell in love with. I use the origami fold, and sometimes will fold a preemie sized prefold in it as a doubler. I have Little Lions, and they are YUMMY. I also have some that are bamboo, that we use for night time.

Pockets. We use Fuzzi Bunz. I love them, they are great for travel, and wash easy. They are also Ryan’s diaper of choice.

Fitteds. Now I used to be all over the board on these, but have narrowed them down to my favorites. I make Rita Rumps one size pocket fitteds, that I LOVE. We also use Swaddlebees fitteds and pocket fitteds. I’m a snob and only use the velour kind. Terry is NOT my friend.

Covers. We use Thirsties, proraps, fleece and Wool. Thirsties will last a long time in the medium weight range. I love the colors that Thirsties come in. I also like Prorap covers. They just come in white, but they really worked well for us. I make our fleece covers!

Wool. I put them under the covers category, which they are, BUT they really need their own catagory! I love wool. I love using it because it has antibacterial properties. I am also a wool snob. I am very picky. I make Longies, and will be making some shorts for summer. Brand wise I use Wild Child Woolies, Llamajamas, Ahmay and I have one Luxe. I am a Llamajama whore. Most all of them are hard to some by, and require stalking.

I also use cloth wipes. I had someone make them for me, and I need more! They are soft and yummy. I will also admit that I LOVE to buy wipe bits rather than make my own solution. Just one less step for me. I get unscented and add some essential oil to it as well as a drop of Grapefruit Seed Extract. That stuff comes in pretty handy.

Wool Washing and Lanolizing.

OK, so this is rounding up the last of the tutorials. Obviously you have to handle wool with a little more care. So no washer and dryer, unless you plan on using it on a doll. I found yummy wool wash and I add a little drop of lanolin to the wash. Swoosh it around before adding the wool, and the squoosh the wool around a bit. Then I let it soak for about 15-30 min depending on how dirty it is. A wool wash bar also comes in REALLY handy when it comes to dirt. SUPER stubborn stains I soak in Bac Out. Then when the wool is washed I squoosh the water out(NO wringing!) and throw it in the washer for a SPIN ONLY cycle. It gets SO much water out. Then I lay flat to dry on the dryer. It’s usually dry by morning. Since I add the little extra lanolin to the wash I use a spray lanolin when it’s dry. Here are a few how to’s though!

Ok folks, so that is all the information off the top of my head! If you have any questions please ask! Leave a comment or email me. I promise I will get back to any questions!

An Update and a Preview

So I really have been meaning to update, and I was hoping that I would have a little more time while I was here. Not so much. Been pretty busy, but I guess that was to expected.

I am going to try and sit down this afternoon and do a nice long blog all about cloth diapers. I have had a lot of people email me with questions and I thought it would be great for them to have one place to go back to with links and some handy tips.

I have also gotten a lot of pm’s and comments regarding the blinkies I have up on my Myspace and forum signatures. SO I gathered them and have been uploading them, and will have a nice long post for you guys to snag them.

Let see, OH, Ryan is getting his new tattoo today as well, and I will try and get some pictures. He’s really excited about starting his sleeve, and has been looking for things left and right. I think the things he has come up with are great! All of them have a really special meaning. I’m sad though, because I was supposed to bring the kid’s foot prints, but I had a lot of things going on and…yeah. He’s been really excited looking for ideas for my next one as well. We have had some luck, but I think it’s going to come down to having someone draw it out for me. He’s also been pushing for me to get my nosed pierced. Wierdo. LOL. I love him.

Lets see what else? OH! Look for a post for March For Babies. It’s almost that time of year again, and I’m looking to try and surpass my goal this year.

I think that is all for the time being. Hopefully I can back this afternoon.

Yikes.

I never really intended to take a blogging break, but every time I started to sit down nothing seemed very important. I don’t really want to go into too much detail since I’m not at a place where I feel like sharing. I am going to update on a whole slew of other things though.

Ryan left for HI on the 14th and we have been missing him like crazy. It seems to have affected Lilli the hardest. She had a mini baby breakdown last night, that pretty much broke my heart. We were over at my mom’s and she was playing when all of a sudden she stopped and looked around. The next second she just burst into tears and started doing that silent freak out cry. I ran over to her to make sure she wasn’t hurt, when she let out the most pitiful “I want my DAADDDDDY”. I called him and handed her the phone, but she threw it down and cried some more. Poor baby :(. We are going to visit him though! I’m so excited. Kaleb…not so much. I mentioned that we were going to see daddy, and I immediatly saw the fear in his eyes. When I asked him waht was wrong, he said he didn’t want to go in an airplane. They go too fast! They get broken. So last night he tells me “you and baby go see daddy, I stay here with Mum and Madison” I would feel so sad to leave him behind, but if I buy a ticket and he has a mental breakdown, I don’t know what I will do. Or if he will react with an eating strike like he did the last time we forced him to do something he didn’t want to. Sigh.

Although Ryan is staying in a condo, it has a coin operate laundry. Which means that the cloth needs to stay behimd. Both mine and Lilli’s. Whomp. That also means that I need to find sposies that won’t make Lilli break out in a rash. I will be fine, I know what I can use. The last time I bought sposies for Lilli was over 8 months ago! The STRESS! How do sposies work anyway? LOL.

I have also been selling a lot of custom orders lately! Yay! I like that I’m getting my name out there. I am working on a great custom for Issy and I am getting so excited on how it is turning out. I would take a picture, BUT my darling Lilli killed my camera. She broke my screen so I can’t tell what I am taking a picture of until I upload it. Urgh. I plan on just getting a cheapy one since I am getting my Canon Rebel when Ryan gets back. EEEEE!

Selling the customs has helped me to fund my Ergo, Beco, or Yamo carrier. NOW if I can just get someone to sell one to me. The first day of looking, I lost out on 8. 8! I am still waiting to hear back from a lady on DS about her Beco which is lime swirls. So me! I am getting a little discouraged that I now have enough to buy a new Ergo, but can’t bring myself to do it. Ryan says just go for it, since I sold things to get and not using any of our funds. Plus he’s excited about getting a carrier that he can use as well. He is brave enough to use the sling around the house, but not in public. Plus even if if I did buy it new, the next baby can use it as well.

Way OT, but I just saw the preview for the new Bring it On tonight! STOKED!

Anyway my sister and I are going to go to Target tonight to see what kind of cheap cameras they have there and buy Lilli some sandals. I found a box of clothes from last year and a large majority still fit. My poor stumpy kid. I did put a pair of pants on her today that were too short in the inseam, so I think there is some hope.

I need to stop since I just looked up and see that Lilli is now smashing Cheerios into little bits.

On the go blogging!

That’s right I am in the car on the way to MIL and I’m blogging! We got the Sprint on the go card and it’s great. I don’t know if that is the right name or not. It’s just as fast as at home, and everything is loading great. It works every where I get cell phone service, so I can be online up until Hwy 38 in OR. That is the only place where I loose reception, and by that time I will probably be ready for a break.

This time around wasn’t too hard on me packing wise, though I did have trouble deciding how many diapers to take again. I was thinking about just taking my Fuzzi Bunz and washing every night, but decide on bringing some prefolds and covers as well. I did find in my packing that I am missing my baby pink Fuzzi Bunz. I wonder where it could be? I am getting excited to see the new style of Fuzzi Bunz. I am crossing my fingers that they add that hip snap.

Lilli helped me pack her bag and all she wanted to take was dresses. ALL her dresses. She would throw them in and scream when I went to take them out. So I packed them and tights and an outfit with pants. She put her Llamajamas in as well, but I snuck them out when she went to bed. I would really hate for something to happen to them. I seriously would die a little inside. The only wool item I took was her new skirty.

I realized about an hour back that I forgot my camera! I am SO upset. I hope MIL doesn’t mind me taking over her camera. Good thing I can download the pictures right on to the laptop.

ANNND we’re off!

Well almost anyway. We have finally decided on a name for our Hyena Cart! I have size labels coming my way, as well as some poly mailers. I have a few testers that are being send out today, and I just realized that we will need some business cards. Whew! Things for the most part are falling into place. I am still working on some other things to stock as well, and perfecting patterns. It’s all very exciting!

LURVE!

I have been looking for a new diaper pattern and found a really great one! I hate making my own patterns, and wasting fabric trying to get it just right. I found this one and it’s for a fitted one size diaper that you are supposed to be able to use from small to toddler. We still have to fold it down a bit, so I have a feeling that we will be able to use this one for a while. Plus I love the fact that you can stuff it with whatever you want! I want to try and get some organic velour and make a SUPER yummy one! Here’s the link to the pattern:http://www.jordanpaperarts.com/tana/diapers/RRP/Ritas-Rump-Pocket-Pattern.htm

Here is how they turned out. The jungle baby one I made a little smaller through the crotch, but it’s a little hard to stuff, so I made the purple owl one wider. I also used different elastic in them, and I like the knit one a lot better. Much easier to work with. Anywho here they are in all their one-size glory!

Oh and just for the heck of it here’s Lilli modeling her dip dyed Llamajamas! I am in LURVE with these, and she never wants to take them off. Yes, those are post its on her head. Yes, I know she’s a weirdo.
