Right now, someone is heimliching a noodle.

Last night I did an experiment on my family.  I made a lentil and bulgar mix to resemble ground beef.  Then I added it to the spaghetti sauce and they ate with abandon.  Even Kaleb who I swear, lives on air, commented on how good it was.  Although he refused to eat the noodles.  In case you are wondering you CAN eat around noodles.  Who knew.  Later when I was telling Katie, we had this conversation.

M: I made sauce with that lentil bulgar mix I was telling you about.

K: So you made Faux meat?

M: Huh, I guess I did!

K: you KNOW what you made right?!?

M:…lol… FEET!

K: Spaghetti with feetballs!

Oh yes folks, that’s how WE roll.  Later, since she hasn’t been feeling well, I made her some vanilla cupcakes.  When I say she hasn’t been feeling well, I mean she has cold sores all down her throat.  Or you know, herpes.  LOL.  If I had a little more time I would have made them a little nicer, but I digress.

Yes, you CAN make a cake or cupcakes for any occasion.  What?  You want to be my friend?

Sneak Peek!

So, today I left wide open to make Katie’s cake.  It was a good idea too.  For some reason what started out as a 4 layer cake grew to 6, then 8.  Needless to say we were NOT on speaking terms(the cake and I) when Katie’s mom called me and she got a very frazzled Laini on the phone.  I’m not sure what I said, but she sounded like she needed to calm me down a bit.  I told Katie about it when she called later, to fill her mom in for me.  I’m really excited about it, because this is the most uniform cake that I have made.  I’m getting better!!  So while I’m waiting for the frosting to cool off, I decided to put up a little sneak peek.

Yes my hands are dyed pink.  No, it’s not coming out.  Yup, that’s the actual frosting color in the background 😉 per the birthday girl’s request.

That Will Do Pig, That Will Do.

Well I had a nice list going today and I’m proud to say that I got a lot of things done!  Yay me!  Wanna know what I got done?  Of course you do 😉

Clean up kitchen

Do at least 2 loads of laundry (wash, fold and put away)

Vacuum downstairs

Locate the giant inflatable pumpkin

Get out the box of Halloween decorations

Finish cutting and start sewing the head of Kaleb’s yellow alligator costume (don’t ask) Got the pattern cut out and started to cut out the head.

Sew both kid’s trick or treat bags

Make dinner (Meat loaf, mashed potatoes and green beans

Snuggle in with Ryan after the kiddos go to bed. Well we are snuggling on the couch and will move upstairs in a minute.

Katie came over to use my sewing machine.  She spent her morning at the DOL getting her license renewed(There was a screw up the last time and it only renewed for 2 years.  LAME)  her alternator went out and luckily it was still under warranty since it was under a year.  We spent the day making a dog bed for Chloe.  Her pattern sicked and we came up with a MUCH better one in my opinion.  I will post pictures after tomorrow since she wants it to be a surprise for Richard tomorrow.  I love it and I want one for myself, even though I don’t have a dog.  By the time we finished that up I was no longer in the mood to sew the trick or treat bags and then Ryan came home shortly after that.  I did get all the pieces to Kaleb’s pattern cut out and all the little pieces really make me want to cry.  A lot.  It’s ok, he’ll love it and I will hold onto it forever for him.  Still have no idea where the heck the inflatable pumpkin is though, but I have an idea of which tote it might be in.  Ryan will have to move a few things for me.  The Halloween decoration box is right out in front so that was easy.  Tomorrow I am making the cake for Thursday.  I’m excited!  While I would love to do it professionally, I really enjoy making these cakes for the ones I love.  OK off to snuggle upstairs!

Dancing in the rain:)

Yesterday was a great day.  Ryan and I had a kid free night and day.  It was awesome!  Now I love my kiddos dearly, but it was so nice to not change a diaper, get a juice box, trip over toys, break up a fight or bribe anyone.

We got to hang out and be reminded of us for once.  We got up late, ate breakfast at noon and then headed over to the store because I need a new headlight.  While I was there I found the BEST thing EVER!  Now anyone who knew me in high school can remember 2 things about me.  Well probably more things, but these are the thing that stand out.  I have LONG hair and I ALWAYS had Dr. Pepper Lip Smacker on me 🙂 They brought back the HUGE tubes again!  I literally squealed and grabbed the last package.  Ryan looked at me like I was a nutso until he saw what it was.  Apparently I was still using it when we first started dating and even while we were married.  I think I only stopped because I got pregnant with Kaleb.  I of course will get a picture later!

Then we headed home and Ryan fixed my headlight.  I tried watching for a little bit, but got bored by the time he was undoing the 5th bolt to take the battery off.  It takes 6 bolts to hold that bad boy on my car btw.  Light got fixed though!  I had lost interest and went inside to finish my Sex and the City movie.  It was good and I feel like I got a little more closure than when it ended.

After that we chilled at home and Ryan watched Mortal Combat, which I made fun of, because really it is a silly movie:)

We got hungry again because of all non child activities 😉 and I needed foil so we headed out to the store.  We ended up buying some apple pie and of course you need ice cream!  Then miracles of miracles happened.  4 years ago when we lived in Nantucket, Edy’s ice cream came out with a seasonal flavor.  Apple Pie ice cream.  They NEVER brought it back, because we have seriously looked, EVERY year.  They brought it back!  We both jumped and ended up buying 3 of them.  Ryan went to grab another one, but  I was laughing so hard I was almost crying and people were clearing out of the aisle.  I’m pretty sure they all though we were high or something, but WE GOT APPLE PIE ICE CREAM!  It was SO good btw and I wanted to get pictures, but maybe next time.  NOM, NOM, NOM!

Tonight I am getting my hair cut and then tomorrow, Ryan and I are going out on a date.  Dinner and a movie.  He won’t tell me where we are going to go eat though!  I’m excited 🙂

I promise I’ll get pictures of the Lip Smacker 🙂

Nom Nom Nom!

So last night I remembered that we still had the ice cream cylinder freezing away in the garage freezer.  I bought the thing in July sometime and had yet to use it.  Another Goodwill score, that was brand new in the box!  So while I was making spaghetti I started making the ice cream for dessert.

Step one:

Mix 2 eggs and 2/3 cup sugar with an electric mixer until cream colored.

Step 2:

Add 1 3/4 cups milk, 2 cups cream and 2 tsp. vanilla.  Mix well!

Step 3:

Pour mixture into frozen cylinder.  DON’T however knock off the seal and forget to put it back on and then put the cylinder in the holder like I did.  Sigh.

Step 4:

In my case fix seal, fish cylinder out and put lid on top.

Let sit for about 2-3 minutes then turn the handle.  Let sit and turn until it gets thicker!  Have “the one who doesn’t nap” try turning.

Step 5:

Check the consistency!

Step 6:

Forget that you are documenting the whole process and eat it all gone before you realize that you forgot to take a picture!  Oh well maybe next time 🙂
